The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) today released a new public relations campaign designed to educate investors about how their interests are protected in the U.S. system of capital markets and to increase their estimation of the value of attestation provided by CPA firms.
Today’s vehicle is a 3.5 minute cartoon, “The System of Investor Protection.” Of course, in this cartoon the system of protection is anchored by the CPA.
Is this cartoon fact or fiction? Please watch the video and tell me what you think.
Is a cartoon video the best vehicle to choose for improving the public perception of the value of the CPA’s audit opinion? Unless the CAQ is trying to reach teenage boys, it probably undershot its target audience.
The CAQ describes itself as, “… an autonomous public policy organization dedicated to enhancing investor confidence and public trust in the global capital markets.” However, a more honest description is that it exists to promote and lobby for the large firms that dominate the audit industry. It is funded by large CPA firms, and controlled by their CEOs.
