The Pew Research Center has jsut released the results of its recent survey on smart phone usage, ”Nearly Half of American Adults Are Smartphone Owners.” The results are revealing, and have serious implications for accountants in practice, education and media.
The first summary graphic I present shows that smartphone ownership is up to 46% of American adults, up from 35% a year ago. This is a 31% increase (46 less 35, divided by 35). Total smart and cell phone ownership is up to 88% of American adults.
The second summary graphic I present provides evidence that this large increase in smart phone ownership is broad based across most sectors of American society.
There are many possible uses. Accountants can now communicate with others in ways never before thought possible. I routinely Skype students, and talk face to face. Professional accountants can now share documents with their clients over the phone.
Of course, comedians have a field day with this, “My phone is smarter than me. It’s also smarter than you.”
