I am both proud and pleased to announce that I have accepted a position as professor of accounting at the George Dean Johnson, Jr., College of Business and Economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate, commencing with the 2012-2013 school year.
There are several reasons I selected the Johnson College of Business and Economics. The first, of course, would be its students. I am impressed with their appetite for learning and hope for a better life that follows.
Second, I am attracted by the vision and commitment of the faculty and their dean, Darrell Parker. They are driven to educate their students for a better life. Moreover, they are helping pave the way for that future life by willfully choosing to be an incubator for economic development in the upstate area.
Third, I am attracted by the invitation to continue my work as a blogging professor, and as an academic studying the impact of social media on the professional worlds of accounting and finance.
Dean Darrell Parker has these words,
We are very pleased that professor Albrecht has chosen to continue his career at USC-Upstate. He has well developed strengths in teaching, writing to the professional world of accounting, and social media. These strengths have helped raise the visibility and respect for the accounting profession. We expect these strengths to be of immediate benefit to our students, alumni and local community.
That we are able to attract someone with his national reputation is indicative of the progress underway at the Johnson College of Business. With the strong corporate partners of Upstate South Carolina he will have the opportunity to further increase his impact on the profession.
I am grateful for the welcome I have received.
