David Albrecht Loves Accounting
In fall, 2012, David Albrecht, Ph.D., CPA, will begin his appointment as professor of accounting at the George Dean Johnson College of Business and Economics at the University of South Carolina – Upstate.
He previously was at the (1) Offutt School of Business (assoc. prof.) of Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN, (2) Bowling Green State University (assoc./asst. prof.), (3) University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (v. asst. prof) and (4) Andrews University (asst. prof.). He enjoys teaching financial accounting as well as cost/managerial accounting. He has graduate degrees in accounting from Virginia Tech (Ph.D.) and Iowa (M.A), where he also taught accounting.
In 2011, the Accounting Today named him to their list of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting. In 2011, a different publication named him the #5 Most Social Media Savvy Professor in America. The Summa is regularly included in lists of top accounting blogs.
Although apparently well received by students, no one has ever rated him a red hot chili pepper at RateMyProfessors. With good reason. He claims that, “I am to good looking as Scarlet Johansen is to ugly without curves.” Ugh.
When he isn’t in class, he is usually reading and sending posts to the international e-mail listserv for accounting professors, AECM–Accounting Education Using Computers and Multmedia. His usual topics are higher education, financial accounting regulation and humor/movies.
Although not famous, he has gained some notoriety for having his students play Monopoly and then do the accounting for their experience. He calls this simulation game Real Money, and will send anyone a copy if only they e-mail him [albrecht@profalbrecht.com].
In his spare time he plays bridge and boggle. Interested in playing with/against him? E-mail him [albrecht@profalbrecht.com] to set up a match.
