Earlier this week I posted a video essay (Bailout and Poular Culture) about how citizens view the bailout in humor and mostly song. The video essay contained links to Youtube videos. All were good, some were very very good. One thing they all have in common is that they are honest expresssions of how disagreement and disgust with what has happened to the country and the government response.
I took another trip to YouTube and found some more. These are entertaining as well as sobering. First, the headliners: four songs and three skits/commentaries. Then, the others.
Monster Crash

Headlining this collection of videos is Monster Crash, a slick and professional musical commentary on the economic crash.
AIG Lehman parody medley(INITIAL CUT)
Sung by Georga Osborne & Shauna Hicks;
Parody by Fred Landau
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUjCalZ7hiM (December 15,2008)
The music in this medley is top notch! I play it over and over again.
YOU’VE GOT THE FED
song parody from versusplus.com on the CREDIT CRISIS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9ZlxsEioUA (September 15, 2008)
Uploaded on September 15, 2008, this song is sung directly to corporate executives contemplating asking for a bailout. Ouch.
Financial Crisis: The Musical
Lyrics: B. Hopman Vocals: R. Hopman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=henMX35nkJg (October 2, 2008)
Aired before the election, contains a few barbs thrown at McCain. This guy is angry! View with discretion.
Now for the headlining skits/commentaries, video essays that make their points without song.
The financial crisis explained
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o4IcNbfPMA (October 6, 2006)
“The Financial Crisis Explained” starts slowly, but ends with a huge punch line. The language is a pretty strong at the end.
Whatever your investments were,
they aren’t worth anything anymore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJL5pgn-88 (December 28, 2008)
This skit is created by the same folks that did “Sponsor a CEO”.
The Answer – to 700 Billion Dollar Package
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMWa43Xvz2Q (September 25, 2008)
Created before the election, I’m guessing “The Answer” was not authored by a Republican. Now, for the second wave of songs.
Credit crunch anthem
I selected this one from the U.K. to show (1) the crisis is world wide, and (2) angst and creativity know no national boundaries.
Bailout the song
AIG Bailout Parody Song
sung by Georga Osborne;
parody lyric by Fred Landau
CRASH DANCE
song parody from versusplus.com
on THE FINANCIAL CRISIS & THE DEBT CEILING
Bailout the robbers – screw the people

Over and out – – David Albrecht
Tired of Bankers having all the fun.
Bailout! The Game the hilarious parody of the government bailout where when you lose, you win. In this role reversal of the classic board game debt is king.
Bailout! The Game gives you an endless supply of T.A.R.P funds, laughs and fun.
Be the bank, lose billions and get a bailout.
Play as one of six banks: Bankruptcy O’ America, Worth Farless, No Cashvia, Liquidation Brothers, Greedy Investors of America, or Washed Up Mutual.
Land on or pass over Frantic May and Frivolous Mac spaces and get slammed with bad debt.(MBS’s and CDO’s)
Just as Monopoly was born out of the Great Depression, Bailout! The Game was born out The Great Recession.

Prof. Albrecht,
I thought you and your readers might be amused that my “AIG Against the World” video, an excerpt of the above “AIG Lehman Parody Medley,” got a very brief but very nice mention on CNN. It’s only five seconds of air time, but it’s my CNN debut, and they even spelled my name right! 🙂
Here’s the link to Jeanne Moos’ CNN report (shown throughout that day on shows like CNN’s Situation Room, American Morning, Anderson Cooper 360, among others); the report led with the hook from “AIG Against The World” with my name even printed at the top of the TV screen.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/offbeat/2009/03/17/moos.mocking.ceos.cnn
(NOTE: There’s a short commercial first, before the actual CNN report.)
Also, just in time for the hearing last Wednesday of AIG’s CEO Edward Liddy before Congress, we had put up another slightly updated “excerpt single” from the parody medley, this time the parody of the 1970’s hit “Ain’t No Way to Treat A Lady,” called “Ain’t No Way to Treat Ed Liddy.”
And lastly, this may be a little obscure, but please go with me on this: In another entry on your blog, you discuss the FISH (First In Still Here) method of inventory. Coincidentally, the only non-finance parody I’ve put on youtube since starting doing this last november happened to be on the subject of FISH, though it deals not with LIFO inventory, but with the Broadway FISH scandal, when actor Jeremy Piven left the Broadway show Speed-the-Plow claiming illness due to having consumed too much fish. Even inventory-loving non-theater-a-fish-ianados might enjoy a lot of the fish jokes.
Many thanks,
Fred Landau

Your video is absolutely great! I think I was able to direct a couple hundred people to view it. I’m simply glad to be able to help out.
